Dec 10, 2025 · Giuseppe Garibaldi, Italian patriot and soldier of the Risorgimento, a republican who, through his conquest of Sicily and Naples with his guerrilla Redshirts, contributed to the achievement of Italian unification under the royal house of Savoy. Giuseppe Garibaldi was not just a general or a leader; he was the embodiment of the spirit of the Risorgimento. Garibaldi, however, had fled to Brazil. Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807–1882) was a prominent Italian political and military figure, known as one of the founders of the modern Italian state.
